AVP, Strategy & Support Operations
The Associate Vice President of Strategy & Support Operations partners with the Service Leadership Team to drive business performance, operational excellence, and continuous improvement across U.S. Engineering Service. This role provides strategic guidance, actionable insights, and innovative solutions, leveraging technology, data, and AI to enhance workflows, streamline processes, and empower teams. The AVP fosters a high-performance culture by building strong teams, developing talent, and creating an environment where people can thrive. By aligning financial performance, operational efficiency, people development, and technology strategy with the company’s long-term vision, the AVP plays a critical role in strengthening business operations, enabling sustainable growth, and supporting a culture of innovation and excellence.


Primary Areas of Responsibility:
 
  • Strategy: Partners with President and Regional Vice Presidents in developing and executing long-term strategies that align with U.S. Engineering Service’s goals and vision, ensuring sustainable growth and operational excellence.
  • Information Technology: Collaborates closely with USE Service Leadership and Holdings IT Team to ensure all service software supports strategic priorities, fosters continuous improvement, and drives innovation.
  • Operational Excellence: Enhances Service operational efficiency by implementing best practices, ensuring process consistency, and fostering a culture of superior service and continuous improvement.
  • Finance & Accounting: Works closely with the President, Regional Vice Presidents, and Holdings Finance leadership to assess financial performance, optimize resource allocation, and ensure business decisions are financially sound.
  • Communications/Culture: Partners with USE Service Leadership and MarCom in developing and implementing internal and external communication strategies to enhance transparency, team member engagement, and brand messaging.

Principal Duties and Accountabilities:

Strategy:
  • Leads strategic content development for quarterly updates and annual planning retreats.
  • Evaluates strategic business and growth opportunities for feasibility and guides leadership through structured decision-making processes.
  • Actively participates in strategic planning and directs activities that support and sustain the company’s overall strategy and long-term vision.
  • Ensures strategic alignment with Regional Vice Presidents to meet the overall objectives of U.S. Engineering Service.
  • Monitors and stays abreast of industry technology trends and adapts best practices to advance company capabilities.
  • Serves as a member of USE Service’s Management Team and Strategic Planning Team.

Information Technology:
  • Subject matter expert on Service Software, Accounting software, and overall user experience; acts as the primary point of contact for USE Holdings on all IT and Accounting-related functions.
  • Builds and leads a cross-functional team, ensuring team members are engaged, supported, and equipped to adopt and leverage new technologies effectively.
  • Champions change management by creating clear communication strategies, training plans, and support systems that promote team buy-in, smooth transitions, and successful implementation of new tools and workflows.
  • Partners with field, service, and accounting teams to develop and implement solutions that unlock the full potential of the Company’s software platform.
  • Leads the optimization and innovation of technology systems, leveraging AI, data analytics, and automation to improve operational workflows, enhance service delivery, and drive business efficiency.
  • Continuously evaluates technology trends, AI tools, and data capabilities to identify and recommend opportunities for process improvements, smarter decision-making, and value creation.

Operational Excellence:
  • Provides oversight for the Customer Service Support Team that provides dispatching, scheduling, call center operations, and direct client support across all Service Regions and lines of business.
  • Develops standardized change management methodologies and training tools to facilitate smooth transitions and adoption of new processes to maximize operational efficiencies in service delivery.
  • Drives business excellence by ensuring the right processes are effectively utilized across service operations.
  • Engages with Service leadership to advise on industry best practices, emerging trends, and drives continuous process improvements.

Finance & Accounting:
  • Provides oversight for the Accounting and Business team and supports all Service Regions and lines of business through billing, payroll, AR, and related financial operations.
  • Meets monthly with Regional Leadership to review financial results and support their understanding of the financial metrics that influence business performance.
  • Participates in budgeting, re-budgeting, monthly forecast reviews, and other business or financial meetings.
  • Coordinates with USE Holdings on Risk Management and Legal resources and facilitates processes within USE Service.

Communications/Culture:
  • Fosters a culture of innovation, operational best practices, and continuous improvement with an emphasis on leveraging standardized tools and processes that will facilitate the achievement of the organization’s objectives.
  • Develops and implements an internal and external communication strategy tailored to U.S. Engineering Service.
  • Aligns community engagement strategies across regions and companies where beneficial.
  • Oversees and aligns marketing and public relations strategies specific to U.S. Engineering Service.
  • Supports implementation of safety initiatives and related communications.
  • Capable of acting on behalf of the USE Service President in their absence.

Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Construction, Finance or a related field is required. An advanced degree is preferred.

Experience:
  • Proven Leadership Experience. 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop key team members and build a high-performance culture.
  • Track record of solving complex business challenges and delivering actionable solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop departmental budgets to meet business plans, and a track record of leading a team to achieve goals within budget constraints.
  • Expertise in operational excellence, change management, and process optimization.
  • Ability to translate complex technical knowledge into actionable business strategies that drive results.

  • Strong leadership, critical thinking, and consultative problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in leveraging data, technology, and AI to improve workflows, enhance decision-making, and drive business efficiency.

  • Strong analytical and financial acumen to assess business performance and drive operational efficiencies.
  • Ability to prioritize, execute, and manage multiple initiatives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, and work collaboratively across teams.
  • Skilled in leading through complex change; able to articulate the “why” and guide teams through uncertainty.
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to build successful business relationships internally and externally.
  • Business-minded with a balanced approach to managing opportunities, risks, and profitability.
  • Strategic and innovative thinker with the ability to anticipate future trends, envision possibilities, and turn vision into action.

Physical and/or travel demands:  
  • Occasional travel to other regional offices and other areas with potential work opportunities (involving overnight stays) is required.

Benefits and Compensation:
  • The range for this position has been established at $184,000 to $225,000 per year and is U.S. Engineering’s good faith and reasonable estimate at the time of the posting. The compensation offered to the finalist selected for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
  • Your total compensation will go beyond the number on your paycheck. Team members are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance as well as paid time off. An industry-leading benefits package, including health, dental, and vision plans, matching retirement contributions, and matching 529 contributions all add to your bottom line.
